Pinhole Photography Week 1

For assignment 2, we were instructed to create 2 pinhole cameras to create negatives using light and photo paper.

The first camera I made (bottom) is made out of cardboard box that I purchased. I then used a utility knife to cut out a small square and placed aluminum foil with electrical tape. Using the tip of a push pin I created the hole. Inside the camera, I painted it black using acrylic paint to avoid any light reflection.

The second camera (top) is made out of styrofoam that I purchased from the dollar store. This material was tricky to work with as it was very fragile. Using scissors and a utility knife, I attempted to cut in half and make it hollow. Using the bottom of a pop can I created the lid. I then painted the outside and inside black using three coats of acrylic paint. After, using a utility knife I created a square to place the aluminum foil with a small hole. Lastly, I used electrical tape to piece together the styrofoam and aluminum foil.

Both cameras worked well, though I found using my thumb as the shutter worked better than using electrical tape as the shutter.
